Brahms6 found this one 16th November 2010, 20th find.
This cache is hidden amongst the old fort that was built on Thursday Island to guard against the Russians. The remains of the fort are impressive and give you 360 degree view of the Straits and the surrounding Islands.
Worth the early morning climb just to see it. Next time I will be up there before the sun comes up and and watch it rise over the Islands.
Thursday island has an impressive history and the fort is only a part of it, if you get a chance you have to go see for your self.
The cache itself was tricky as it was not in any of the obvious locations but a hot, extended search turned it up. This was traditional cache with SWAG and a Travelbug.
This travelbug was attached to a pair of army vehicles and the stated objectives are to travel from military base to military base to to highlight the affects of war on people. It has a second objective to travel to Russia and Iceland. I don't think you can get much further from Iceland then Cape York Peninsular weather wise. It was released in Colorado in November 2009 and has now travelled 15,635.7 Kilometers.
As I am not going to Russia or Iceland in the near future and there does not seem to be any caches near our military bases in cairns I will have to create one so look out for further posts.I signed the log, enjoyed the view and left behind a plastic pistol and thong keyring.
This was the second of only two caches on Thursday Island so I the set off to hide my own.
