Cane Field Falls

Brahms6 found this one on the 19th January at 14:00, 95th find.

Found with Wazza and Kara.

This cache took us along the back road between Silkwood and South Johnstone, two small towns that service the sugar industry.

Along this drive you are treated to some great views of the cane fields and the mountains. You can also visit the famous Paronella Park. This "Castle in the Rainforest" is rated as number one in Queensland's 150 things to see.

But today we cache hunters were after a more earthy location. Along the paved road there is a dirt track that branches off. It looks for all the world like a farm track for a tractor but if the GPSR tells you to go you follow. I am glad we did, the path takes you to a fantastic waterfall. There is a picnic table and chairs and the sound and view are awesome.

The cache was hidden in the forest along the creek and we located it with out too much trouble.

Signed the log and I took a keyring and left a balloon and a plastic wristband.

The lid of the container had a large crack in it so I placed it into a ziplock bag before returning it to it's hide.

On the way to Lugger Bay

Brahms6 found this one on 19th January 2011 at 11:37, 94th find.

Found with "wazza&kara"

The seaside community of Mission Beach is a little paradise for people who enjoy saltwater hideaways. It is only a short boat ride from Mission beach across to Dunk Island and this photo was taken from the cache site.

The cache was hidden just of the path along a well maintained walking track at South Mission Beach. We did encounter a lot of muggles enjoying the walk whilst we were wandering along GPSR in hand trying to pretend they were digital cameras or some such thing.

It was hard not to get distracted from our task at hand by the views offered.

We signed the log and I took the Gingerbread man geocoin and left the Kris the kangaroo Travelbug.

Jimmy Gingerbread had been lost because he had been removed from a previous cache and placed in this one with out being logged, so I am sure the owners are happy to know that I have located him. I think he was hiding from the Muffin man on Drury Lane.

Jimmy Gingerbread has an inscription "Run, run as fast as you can you can't cache me I'm the Gingerbread Man"

Canecutter Settlement

Brahms6 found this one on 19th January 2011 at 08:46, 93rd find.

Found this one with "wazza&kara'.

Situated on the bank of the Johnstone River in Innisfail is a small park and at the entry to the park is this statue dedicated to the early canecutters that helped pioneer the sugar industry.

Innisfail is a very pretty town with a lot of the architecture reflecting an Art Deco Style ( in fact on their town walk map they call Innisfail the Art Deco Capital of Australia). The community has a large Italian community.

If you ever come by make sure you go to Oliveri's Deli. Mrs Brahms6 always knows when I have been to Innisfail because I come home stocked up with delicious salami and cheese.

The town was devastated in March 2006 when Cyclone Larry crossed over it, but you will see if you visit that the town has recovered well and the great architecture and this statue have survived.

The cache was hidden well and we eventually found it in the general area that the GPSR was taking us although not as precisely as usual. We had two Garmin G60's on the job.

The cache contents were very wet so we dried them out as well as possible but it will need some TLC from the owner.

Signed the log, farewelled the pioneers and headed on our way.

Scouting About

Brahms6 found this one on 18th Januray 2011, 92nd find.

I had gone in search of this cache twice before and had no luck.

This building was used by General MacArthur as Headquarters during World War 2 and is highly fortified. I subsequent years it has gained a hat and is used by the followers of Baden Powell.

As it turned out the GPSR was taking me to the correct spot on the previous occasion I was just not looking in the right way. The cache was the tiniest of nanos and was something that I had either not seen on previous visits or seen and glanced over.

Signed the log and was glad to have finally met the scout challenge.

On Top of Tanked

Brahms6 found this one on 16th January 2011 at 08:16, 91st find.

After finding "Tanked" Wazza, Mrs Wazza and I headed up the hill to try and claim first to find for "On Top of Tanked".

Given my physiological design (I would compare it to a recliner rocker) this was quite a challenge. The path up the hill was reasonably well defined most of the way but the last bit was up to us to trail blaze.

We took plenty of rests and eventually reached the summit. We located the cache and the cacheing gods were kind to us we were first to find. Whoo Hoo it was worth all the effort and I am sure that my legs will come back to me eventually and that the lower lobes of my lungs will get over being filled with oxygen (something that hasn't needed to happen for a long time).

The walk up was a challenge but I managed to make it without landing on my butt, not so the trip down. In some inexplicable way (I am putting it down to exhaustion and shock at the exertion) my body got ahead of my legs and I disappeared out of sight into a tangle of Buffalo Grass and Lantana. When I found my feet (yes they were still attached to my legs) I was surrounded by Lantana and Grass above head height and could only find Wazza and Mrs Wazza by the direction of the unbecoming laughter.

We signed the log and I took a Dinosaur and left a Plastic arm band and a goose (Given the goose I made of myself on the way down that was apt)

My very first "first to find" I have logged this one as a favourite for two reasons. The effort i had to put in and the FTF.

Tanked

Brahms6 found this one on 16th January 2011 at 07:45 90th find.

I found this one with "wazza&kara" well actually Wazza and Mrs Wazza. I turned up quite early to get this cache and then head up the hill to try and claim a First to Find on a newly placed cache only to find this pair of miscreants 10 metres ahead of me.

So we joined forces.

This cache has been recorded as missing for some time but was recently resurrected with a new container log and goodies.
Located in the foothills outside the town of Gordonvale about 20 kilometres south of Cairns behind one of the reservoirs that service the city. Wazza and I followed our GPSR's Both Garmins G60's but Mrs Wazza was casting her eagle eye about the for the best locations when she spotted the cache.

We signed the log and I took the soft plastic lures and left a Collie dog and a frog.

Toot Suite

Brahms6 found this one on 15 January 2011 at 18:15, 89th find.

Is this sign biographical?

This cache was a tricky little puzzle micro that took us to the town of Tolga just north of Atherton on the Atherton Tablelands.

The community have restored an old railway station and created a museum. Unfortunately we arrived too late to visit the museum but this did mean we were able to walk around and work out the clues to the puzzle without any muggles around.

The clues did seem quite straight forward but we discovered that one of our answers were wrong because the correct one was camouflaged by a large clump of grass. Eventually we worked out the coordinates and were on the hunt.

There was a clever twist to this one in that at the GZ there were a couple of decoys that we found before we found the real cache. (tricky)

I signed the log and I gave this one a favourite point because of the decoys, an idea I am going to steal for a future cache.

Twelfth of Never

Brahms6 found this one on 15th January 2011 at 17:26, 88th find.

This cache is also hidden close to the Mabi Forest on Halloran's Hill Atherton. There is a well constructed walking path along a creek and the cache is hidden just a few metres off the track.

It took me quite a while to find this cache even though I was all over the GZ as it was so well concealed. We did get asked by a muggle if we were taking a swim. I think he confused all the perspiration for water.

Signed the log and took a monkey and left a wristband an a rooster.

Geocacher's Book Exchange

Brahms6 found this one on 15th January 2011 at 16:44, 87th find.
This cache is also hidden on Halloran's Hill in Atherton. I have wanted to claim this cache for a long time now. Because of the books.
The cache holds books and we are encouraged to take one or all of them. I have been past many times and carry a book in my car for exchange purposes just in case I got a chance to go in after it. You wouldn't believe it but the day I found it I had left the book out of the car so I was not able to leave one in exchange. I did take one and leave an IOU in the log.
There is an easy way to find this log and a hard way. I obviously chose the hard way. I continued on through the wet soggy Mabi Forest searching under trees and in hollow logs feeling sure that the very next place I looked would be the GZ. But no, eventually I broke out of the forest onto a wide open road. The GPSR almost instantly locked on and pointed me to a very short (10 Metres) and there it was, when I go back with the book I am taking the road. Although the walk in the forest was very enjoyable.
Signed the log took "Caesar by Colleen McCulloch and left an IOU and a cat and a plastic band.
I also took the "Kris-the kangaroo"travelbug" Kris was released in Germany in 2008 and has traveled 21,398.3 kilometers.
I have marked this cache as a favourite,

Mabi Babi, I'll find you ...

Brahms6 found this one on the 15th January 2011 at 16:22, 86th find.
Halloran's Hill in Atherton plays host to a remnant mabi forest and that is where this cache was hidden.
Our task was to locate a specific point indicated by the posted Coordinates and then walk on a specific bearing for a distance that was calculated from what we found at the original coordinates.
The tricky thing of course is that it has been raining for weeks and the paths were actually swamps. Further to that the paths do not follow a direct bearing so we had to meander through the forest for quite a distance before we located the cache. It was a beautiful walk through the trees and the little paddymelons (similar to a little wallaby) hopping around were entertaining.
Signed the log and took a possum and left a goose and a wristband.

It's Curtains for Cachers

Brahms6 found this one on 15th January, 2011
at 14:23, 85th find.

The Curtain Fig as a natural wonder situated in the rain forest just outside of Yungaburra on the Atherton Tablelands. It is a fantastic giant and it is easily accessible by all with a wooden viewing platform and walkway. If you get a chance do yourself a favour and go and marvel.

Well this was supposed to be an easy find, I knew the location and the instructions were clear. However it was not. We searched for a long time climbing up and down rocks getting held back by "Wait-a-while" vines.

We searched in amongst the tree roots and all the forest debris but we were obviously clueless.

Eventually I managed to locate it exactly where I would have put it if I had hidden the thing. I was sitting in the forest writing up the log when two rangers pulled up. I was sure they were going to come and find out what I was up to sitting on the forest floor with a jar in my hands but they just wandered off in an other direction.

Signed the log took a monkey and left a wristband a puzzle and a SES badge. The cache was very wet so I dried it out and replaced the clipseal bag.

Brahms6 found this one on the 15th January 2011 at 12:22, 84th find.

Windfield park is located between Lake Eacham and Malanda on the Atherton Tablelands. The park is a nice little grassy location where you can park your van for a night.

If you are quiet and lucky you may see a platypus playing in the creek.

The cache was well hidden in the obvious place but I did need the clue because the GPSR went off a bit under the trees.

Signed the log and took a spaceman and left a thong keyring and a cat.

I Spy

Brahms6 found this one on the 15th January 2011, at 11:49, 83rd find.

When you travel from Lake Barrine towards Lake Eacham on the Atherton Tablelands there is a road that cuts off to the left. If you didn't know about it you would drive over the little bridge and keep going completely oblivious to the beautiful little waterfall hidden below.

The GPSR took us down an unmarked track to this hidden marvel. What is surprising is that even though there is no signing and the path is just a rough foot pad when you get above the waterfall there is a well constructed viewing platform.

Of course to claim the cache you do have to walk all the way to the bottom of the falls and scratch around a bit amongst the fallen logs and jungle. But find it we did.

Signed the log and took the "Traditional Micro" geocoin and left a frog which seemed appropriate for the this wet and green area.

Brahms6 found this one on 15th January 2011 @ 11:05, 82nd find.
This entry introduces you to a different type of geocache. This is an "Earthcache". To claim an earthcache you must visit a location which is found by following your GPSR.
Once there you have to;
a. answer a series of questions that
1. Teach you something about the location
2. Prove that you have been there
b. Take a photograph
You the send these to the cache owner who confirms you have found the site. You are then able to log a find.
This Earthcache featured the Crater lake known as lake Barrine. We took the time whilst there to have Coffee and scones on the balcony over the lake and explore the location to track down our answers.
This is a must see location for any visitors to the Tablelands.

Above the Valley

Brahms6 found this one on 15th January 2011 at 09:55, 81st find.

This picture does not do justice to how high up this cache was hidden. As you drive up the Gillies range from Gordonvale to the Atherton Tablelands there is a small area where you can pull over.
You then park your car and climb a steep hill to the top where you are presented a fantastic view of the Goldsborough Valley below. The cache is placed in a small cairn at the very top.

This was the first find of a caching day trip across the tablelands. I signed the log and took a crane and left a balloon and a plastic gun.

Brahms6 Concerto No.5

Brahms6 placed this cache on 8th January 2011, 12th cache placed. This was the last of 6 caches placed today.

On one of the main roads into our suburb there is a bus shelter and behind it stands two majestic trees that guard a driveway. I have driven past these almost every day for the last two years and now I have finally stopped and placed a cache in one of the trees.
The cache is a Micro, an Eclipse mint tin painted black. It holds a log and a pencil.

Because this is a very high traffic area there is a degree of difficulty in retrieving this cache because it requires extreme stealth. I suggest it is looked for late in the afternoon or early in the morning.

You can find this cache by going to http://www.geocaching.com/ and looking for GC2M5MA

Brahms6 Concerto No.4

Brahms6 placed this cache on 8th January 2011, 11th cache placed.

This cache is placed as a roadside rest stop on the south side of the Trinity Inlet. The fantastic view was screaming out for a cache.

It is obviously a high traffic area so I have placed a Micro here. The micro is an Eclipse mint tin painted black. There is only room for a log and a pencil. I have placed it in the obvious spot for someone in the know

But back to the view. You can see in this photo cairns city in the background. Trinity Inlet cuts in right in front of the city and the main channel is wide enough and deep enough to allow large vessels, cruise ships and Navy ships as well as freighters.

You can find this cache by going to www.geocaching.com and looking for GC2M5M7

Brahms6 Sonata No. 6

Brahms6 placed this cache on 8th January 2011, 10 cache placed.

I took this cache up along the southern coast of the Trinity Inlet to a location known as Second Beach. There is a boat ramp there and you could launch here to fish down into the inlet or turn east and head out to the Great Barrier Reef.

There is a lovely little beach here and this rock and tree formation is easily accessed by foot. You could spend quite a long time walking around this area so take some water.

I wouldn't recommend that you swim here as there are crocodiles. But there are fantastic views across the inlet to Cairns City and northwards.

The Cache is a small Sistema container painted black and contains a logbook and SWAG. If you continue on along the road you will reach the community of Yarrabah.

Brahms6 Sonata No. 5

Brahms6 placed this cache on 8th January 2011,
9th Cache placed.

This cache is placed close to the mangroves on the Cairns side of Trinity Inlet. However because of the crocodiles I was not getting too close. Instead I placed it high and dry amongst some very large cement blocks that are stacked up upon each other.

You can see geodog Bob and geodog Pat helping me to get the GPS readings.

The cache is a small Sistema container painted black and holds a logbook and SWAG. Although the area looks quite isolated from this angle if one were to point the camera in the other direction you would get a number of industrial sites and maybe a view of the Cairns Golf Club in the background.

To find this cache go to www.geocaching.com and look for GC2M5MP

Brahms6 Sonata No.4

Brahms6 placed this cache on 8th January 2011, 8th cache placed.

This cache is not hidden in a park. It is placed amongst the trees alongside Skeleton Creek that forms a border between the suburbs of White Rock and Edmonton FNQ.

To access this one you have to be quite sneaky making your way past an industrial shed and follow a drain that looks like it carries a lot of water in the wet.

The cache is a small Sistema container painted black and contains a logbook and some SWAG. I also placed the "Travel Racer" travelbug into this cache. You will notice from the photo that the sugarcane grows right up to the scrub line. An interesting scenario with the creek and the forest being bordered by the industrial sheds and the sugarcane. All within a few hundred metres of suburbia.

You can find this cache by going to http://www.geocaching.com/ and looking for GC2M5MJ

Brahms6 Sonata No. 3

Brahms6 placed this cache on 8th January 2011. 7th cache hidden.
This was the first of six caches that I placed today. The cache is a small sistema container painted black and holds a logbook and some swaps.
I also placed the "True Blue Kangaroo" travelbug into the cache. This TB was first placed at Tallebudgera in South east Queensland and has travelled 3,386 Kilometers.

The cache is located in the forest alongside Collinson Creek that forms a boundary for a little park in Edmonton, FNQ. This is a nice easy cache to take the geokids to but you may wish to invest in some mozzie repellent.

You can find the cache details at www.geocaching.com and the cache code is GC2M5MG.

Be aware that your GPSR will go off a bit when you get under the trees but it is still a fairly easy find.

Brahms6 Sonata No.1

Brahms6 placed this cache back in November but there was a small hiccup with getting it logged. 5th Cache Hidden

It is now up there for all to find.

For details go to http://www.geocaching.com/ and search for GC2JQKG.

If you ever get a chance to travel along the Peninsular development road that runs from Mareeba to Cooktown take the time to stop off at the lookout and information centre located a few kilometers south of Lakeland Downs on the Byerstown range. You will find a great view and a well set out information display that tells you all about the area.

If you are inclined you can follow your GPSR off the beaten track and find this Cache. After you have found it and signed the log book continue on with your journey and visit what I consider one of the friendliest little communities around. The folk at Lakeland Downs will make you very welcome and you may even choose to spend the night and enjoy their company.

Brown Bay

Brahms6 found this one on the 8th January 2011 at 15:04, 80th find.

I headed off this afternoon to hide some caches but took the opportunity whilst I was in the general vicinity to locate this one and claim it. The cache is located along a beautiful little creek just off the road between Cairns and Yarrabah.

The creek was running well and the background music it provided was an excellent accompaniment for caching. As you can see from the photos the geodogs were excited to get out and help.

I even received a kiss from geodog patty as a reward for finding the cache.
The cache was in good condition and I took a bear and left a horse. Signed the log.

We spent a bit of extra time here getting our feet wet in the creek and taking photos. This would be a nice spot to take visitors to our area to see. Unfortunately there is a lot of litter and rubbish laying around the parking area that detracts from the natural beauty.

I would say this spot is a prime location for a "Cache In Trash Out' site. I will investigate how that works and see what can be done.

I found this one on the same morning trip as "Camels Gone Shopping'.

This one is located at the same shopping centre although it is not in the car park it is still just as exposed to muggles as it is on the corner of two major roads.

I climbed into the garden bed trying to look inconspicuous (Q. Daddy what is that man doing in the garden bed? A. I don't know son maybe he is gardening, Q. Dad why would he be gardening with a tie on? A. Don't ask so many questions) but I suspect I didn't.

We set out on a mission with this newly posted cache to get a "First To Find" but unfortunately we were pipped at the post by "Spinmeout" who found it at 17:05. Oh well better luck next time.

You can see Wazza holding the cache and Kara looking on from below. It is time this blog featured some different faces to my ugly mug.

I am not going to tell tales out of school but I just want to warn all of you if Wazza ever offers to help you down a muddy embankment and reassures you that you will not fall Don't Believe Him.

The cache is located on an embankment above one of the many walking paths that I have spoken of before which surround our area. Due to all the rain getting up to and down from this was different.

We signed the log and I took a cheetah and left a pig and an ostrich. I also left the "cache the World" travelbug. This TB started out in Melbourne and has travelled 3,806.5 kilometres.

The third cache in a row that I have found that belongs to Chatmanais.

Brahms6 found this one on 5th January 2011 at 17:38, 76th find.

Flooding is Imminent is not named after the location which is high and dry. It was named in recognition of the flooding happening in Queensland at the time.

The cache is hidden in the forest above a new housing development in our suburb close to our home. The geodogs and I set out after work to find this one (I am a bit nervous because the geodogs form expectations very quickly and they will expect us to go out caching every afternoon) and they certainly enjoyed the new scents and I enjoyed visiting a new location close to home.

The cache itself is a camouflaged sistema container and I signed the log and took the "Travel Racer" Travel bug. This TB is just starting it's journey having only covered 7.3 Kilometers but I will move him on. I left the "Saskatchewan 2008 Geocoin". This coin started in Saskatchewan Canada in 2009 and has travelled 23,239.8 Kilometers. I will move it on.

Powlett Park DIDO

Brahms6 found this one on 4th January 2011, 75th find.

This was a new cache very close to my home. I did not get a First To Find as I was beaten by Wazza&Kara and Spinmeout.

It is situated in a little park alongside the creek. The suburb we live in has creeks that circumnavigate it and a creek that runs through the middle. There are walking paths (90%) paved that follow the creeks on both sides and these break out into little green and maintained park area's. I assume that the developers didn't do it out of altruistic desire so I am going to thank the Cairns Regional Council. They certainly seem to take their byline "Cairns the City in a Garden" seriously.

The cache was a very neat little micro suspended in a tree. The geodogs enjoyed the walk although they made it very clear that it was over to quickly.

Brahms6 found this one on 2nd,January 2011 at 13:53, 74th find.

The cache descriptor says that this cache is located between the salt and fresh water lakes system in Cairns. The area has great paths for walkers that take you through a fantastic tour of the local environment.

As this is the wet season the paths were wet and anything off the paths was sogging (I have invented that word is I didn't think soaking was descriptive enough) wet.

I being the intrepid cacher that I am slogged through the mud to retrieve this cache. I took the "Saskatchewan" Geocoin and left the "Clean Waters" travel bug. Signed the log and got back onto the path. A great area very close to the botanical gardens.

Cairns has one of the most spectacular botanical gardens. If you like tropical flowers well this is the place to go. you could spend hours wandering around the gardens. There is a tea house where you can get drinks and food and sit and admire the surrounds.

We went on a mission to retrieve what turned out to be a very sneaky little micro cache. The GPs took us for a bit of a wander up and down some paths and eventually to the GZ, but do you think we could find the cache. Not!

We referred to the clue, dodged muggles, walked away and eventually viola there it was.

Dog Heaven (Goomboora)

Brahms6 found this one on 2nd January 2011 at 12:57, 72nd find.

Well it may be heaven for dogs but for Brahms6 it was a hard slog. The cache is hidden in the middle of a swampy Rain Forrest area surrounded by wide open green parks that are approved for dogs.

The creek was up and the paths were thick with mud and blocked in places by water. On top of that the GPS went off as soon as I got into the trees.

But I perservered and with the help of thousands of mosquitos (this was when Mrs Brahms6 deserted me)eventually found the cache.

Actually this is a great spot and it shows off some of the natural tropics very well and it is in the middle of suburbia. I will bring the geodogs back for a run in the dry.

I left some plastic animals, signed the log and took the "Aussie track a bear" trackable.

Brahms6 found this one on 2nd January 2011 at 07:53, 70th find.
What a fantastic site for a cache. I set off in the morning expecting a climb and I got it. This cache has got have had the best view of any cache I have found to date. the path up to the reservoir is like a fairway. It had been raining the night before and all the creeks and rivulets were running. The photo above does not do justice to view out over the Trinity Inlet.
This is a place that you want to bring visitors to Cairns even if they are not interested in cacheing, it is the absolute proof that we live in the most beautiful part of the world.
The geodogs accompanied me and they were very excited to see a very large feral pig run across the path into the scrub I am not sure what they would have done if they had actually caught it.
The cache itself was easily located even though it was guarded by a snake having a swim.
Signed the log and took the "Clear Water" travelbug and left the "10 Year Tag A Bondz 88" travelbug.
This is a fantastic spot I can just imagine an early morning tryst with a picnic blanket, chicken sandwiches, strawberries and pink champagne.
Thanks for the cache "waynecarly & chatmanais" I have given this one a favourite point.

United PI2009 - H

Brahms6 found this one on 1st January 2011 at 15:00, 69th find.

This was a tricky cache to find as the GPS went off as soon as I entered forest. so I had to use the clue given and just keep walking until I recognised what I thought was the right place and then scratch around.

I felt like a cassowary scratching around in the Rain Forest but I was in the correct location and made the find. There was a mosquito squadron defending the location so Mrs Brahms6 took a quick photo and then hightailed it away while I signed the log.

I took away a black car and left the "Tuk Tuk" travelbug that I had picked up in a cache in Yeppoon.

The path led us through a very nice walk that we would not have found but for caching.
There is an associated puzzle with this cache where one has to collect a series of clues from different caches to solve. I will have a shot at working on this.

Malled By a Camel

Brahms6 found this one on 1st January 2011, 68th find.

Well this one has been tempting me for quite a while because I figured I knew exactly where it was. I was wrong. But it was not too far away.
The cache was very cleverly hidden in a camouflaged location right in the centre of Cairns. The pedestrian mall is a difficult place to be unobtrusive whilst you are removing something that looks like a permanent fixture.

Between the local itinerants (I couldn't work out if they were fighting or partying, probably both) the general crowd enjoying the public holiday, coffee shops etc and the crowd of people waiting for the bus it was a crowded place.

Put I managed with a high degree of stealth and slight of hand to remove the cache and quickly wander of to what I thought was a private place in a building entrance to examine the contents. Unfortunately it started to rain and all the bus people followed me looking for shelter. So I pretended I had B.O. and moved on.

Eventually I sat down on the floor behind a wall and opened up the cache. It was then that I realised I did not have a pen to sign the log so had to settle for the attached photo. I took a "Ten Year Tag Travelbug" for relocation to another cache and left a coin.

Now came the difficult task of returning the cache to its home. By now the party had escalated and the bus people where eyeing me off with a degree of interest that I think was unbecoming of them. So Mrs Brahms6 made a point of pointing to different flowers in the garden (I have uploaded one of the flower photos) and generally wandering around touching plants until she was strategically situated between me and the maddening crowd. I slipped the cache back into its home and we wandered off.

This cache is hidden in the locale of a very busy shopping centre in Cairns. I have been to the centre before without realising there is a cache there.

I think we were lucky that it was a public holiday and pouring rain (or should I say precipitating heavily) otherwise we would have been surrounded by muggles. As it was we had to retrieve the cache, drive away and then come back to replace.

Signed the log and as the cache was a bit light on for SWAG took nothing and placed a Hen, a Butterfly and Water Buffalo.

Lily

Brahms6 found this one on the 1st January 2011, 66th find.

This little micro was well hidden on one of the busier street locations in Cairns. Even though it was pouring rain the muggles just kept on turning up. Cyclists, Walkers and an endless stream of cars.

I took the camera with me and pretended to be taking photos of Lily Creek, which was running nicely. There is supposed to be a lot of birds here but I think they must have all got washed down the creek in the rain.

I have driven over this creek many times and it was nice to stop and have a look.

I retrieved the cache quite easily but had to wait out quite a few muggles before I could replace it. Signed the Log. TFTC "Avoloz"

Watt on earth?? DIDO

Brahms6 found this one on 1st January 2011, 65th find.
The picture does not do justice to the amount of rain that was falling whilst I was scratching around after this. The photo was taken by Mrs Brahms6 from inside the car as she refused to come and play in the rain with me. It was a typical far North Queensland Monsoonal downpour.

This cache is in the middle of a road right outside some very busy business places. The rain was keeping all the muggles indoors so the intrepid cacher was undisturbed in retrieving the treasure.

Signed the log, took a keyring and left a donkey and a cat. A good straight forward cache to find from "Stop The World'

The Naughty Water Tank

Brahms6 found this one on 1st January 2011, @07:01, 64th find.

First find for the Day, Week, Month, Year, Decade and all done before breakfast.

This cache took the geodogs and I up a short steep path to the water reservoir above our suburb. The water tank swears "but I have left that photo out" hence the name. It was very nice to take this walk early in the morning whilst it was still relatively cool.

Due to all the rain up here everything was fresh and smelled fantastic. I saw a beautiful snake getting some early morning sun but it left in a hurry when we came along.

The cache was found with the help of the clue and I took a black car and left the Kris's Convoy travelbug. Signed the log and headed back down the hill for coffee and toast. TFTC.

Well it was pouring rain in Cairns but I was not going to let that stop me getting the last cache for the decade. This was a cunningly concealed micro in yet another park hidden away in suburban Cairns.

I waited for a slight lull in the rain and made a dash for the GZ and was lucky enough to isolate the cache between heavy showers.

Signed the log and dashed back to the dry. TFTC Happy New Year from Brahms6, Mrs Brahms6 and the Geodogs.

Camels on Allamanda

Brahms6 found this one on 31st December 2010, 62nd find.

The cache itself was easy to find but we did have to drive up a lot of dead end streets before we could locate the park.

We realised that our car GPS uses a different Coordinates setting to the handheld. I will have to work on that.

The cache location was obvious but it did require me going back to the car to get the tyre lever so I could access the spot.

I took an action figure and left a Sheep and a Rabbit. Once again geocaching has taken me to a location near my home that I did not know existed. Signed the log. TFTC

Somewhere under the Highway

Brahms6 found this one on 31st December 2010, 61st find.

This cache worked me over. Standing on the bridge over this little creek it looked like an easy find with the GPS having a definite fix on the direction. But when I got down under the canopy the GPS was all over the place.

I spent a lot of time in the water, climbing amongst the jungle, walking away and getting new fixes only to follow them back under the trees and losing them.

But in a sure sign that determination and patience pay off I was eventually triumphant.

A good hide on the bank of this creek that runs under the highway just south of Edmonton.

Took a "Cache the World" Trackable and left the "Go Teams" Geocoin. also left a Water Buffalo and an Ostrich to stock up the cache a little. Signed the log and got back to the airconditioning in the car after a very humid 40 minutes.

Timberlea Drive East DIDO

Brahms6 Found this one on the 31st December 2010. 60th find.

This little Micro is in a park very close to my home so it was a nice easy start for the day. This is only a new cache and it is good to seen new cache and cachers popping up in the area.

The cache was easy to find if you are looking for it although I did have to pretend I was doing something else as a junior muggle was circling the area on a bicycle.

Triple P

Brahms6 found this on on 30th December 2010, 59th find.
Even though we were on a camel train home from Rockhampton to Cairns trying to get through before rising water cut the highway, we did find time for one cache.

This cache is in a nice little park behind the service station at Proserpine. The cache was big enough to hold lots of SWAG. I took a keyring and left the "Chance" Travel Bug.
Also of note at this locations was the GPS mark photo above. To find out more about this initiative go to www.ssiq150.org
Signed the log and back on the road.
